How do you estimate future market size of an industry undergoing change?
3D business decline graph

I'm researching the biodiesel industry in North America, and I have data on the size of the market every year from 2000-2006, but the industry started changing in 2005, when gas prices went up so much (and is still undergoing change now because of a variety of factors), making the future hard to predict. Does anyone know a more scientific/data-driven method of estimating future size than just making a guess at growth rates? Thanks.

You need to discover the size of the markets for Compliments & substitutes, especially substitutes since it can be postulated that as the biodiesel industry grows it will be taking customers from other fuel industries. Then start by creating a market estimate for fuel, in total. Break that down by product type, and build in a growth assumption. Then you can begin to estiamte the limitations on and opportunities for growth in the biodiesel submarket.

Why not take oil off the future market?
Karaskjok...

Wouldn't taking crude oil off of the future market and forcing people to take delivery of the crude oil they buy lower the price of crude oil? You would have less people buying crude oil just to hold on to it for a profit. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

A farily interesting proposal.... I've heard some traders & analysts say that crude is very over-priced due to speculation.

The real question is what alternative to the futures market would result in the most efficient outcome. The lure of profits is what makes the oil markets very fluid, and an alternative might add more to the price of oil if its less fluid.

Perhaps a switch to a pure forward market, which, as you suggest, would require delivery of the oil.

The other complication there is the different types of oil being bid on (e.g. the difference between Brent, Light Sweet Crude, West Texas Intermediate). Each one is produced in a different area, and has an overall different market. Oil that is much higher in sulfur is much cheaper, but much harder to refine.

Its an interesting question indeed, and I don't know that much about the specifics of the oil futures market to offer much of a suggestion.

I think if u r looking just for the brokerage then u shud go for reliance money......they charge around Rs.9-12 for each FO transaction......so, thats best option available as of now only in terms of brokerage......
There are also many broking firms that offers brokerage of Rs.9 per FO transaction like R.K.Global......
There might b other local broking houses also which offers a great deal on brokerage.......

With so many people doing so much on line, Is there a future market for real estate agents?
So bekommt jeder seine Finanzen in den Griff

I am recently unemployed with 25 years of administrative, marketing and sales experience. A little over a year ago, I recently earned my real estate license. I attempted to sell real estate while holding down my full time job. (I had to pay the bills!) But, I went into the red almost immediately with desk fees, etc. I need more training in order to sell real estate. I don't want to throw any more money away, if there is no future for me in selling real estate. I need to work for 20 more years. I'm wondering if we are in a time when real estate agents are going to be phased out? I have changed companies and put my license in referral. I believe it will cost me another $250.00 to take a two week course to get going again. I need some advice.

Realtors aren't likely to be phased out, but their jobs are changing somewhat as many prospective clients do the initial "sifting" online. Realtors still show the homes and guide clients through the purchase process from the offer to closing.
